The Medical Journal of Malaysia (MJM)  is the official publication of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA). It is an association with the largest number of doctors in the country. Formed in 1959, it currently has more than 10,000 members. The Medical Journal of Malaysia (MJM) has published Case reports alongside other research articles for more than 100 years. MJM originated as the Journal of the Straits Medical Association in 1890 under Editorship of  Dr. M F Simon. The Medical Journal of Malaya Volume 1 was published in 1946.  Some of the early Hon. Editors were D W G Faris (1946-1947);  D E C Mekie (1948-1954);  H M McGladery (1954-1965 ); A A Sandosham (1965-1972). With the formation of Malaysia, the name ‘The Medical Journal of Malaya’ was changed to The Medical Journal of Malaysia in 1972. Hon. Editors were Dr. A.A. Sandosham (1965 - 1977), Prof. Paul C.Y. Chen (1977 - 1987), N.Chandrasekharan (1987-1990), V K E Lim (1990-1998), J T Arokiasamy (1998-2008), Azhar M Zain (2008-2011), K G Lim (2011-2012), and the current Editor in Chief is Professor Datuk Dr. Lekhraj Rampal (since 2013).

The Medical Journal of Malaysia Case Reports (MJM Case Reports) is a new online, peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Malaysian Medical Association. All case report articles submitted to MJM hereafter will be published in the new website: ‘ mjmcasereports.org’. The aim is to publish clinically important cases on common and rare conditions from all specialties in this region. The MJM Case Reports Journal exclusively focuses on case reports, while  the Medical Journal of Malaysia (MJM) will continue to publish other type of articles such as Original Articles, Review Articles, Short Communications, Continuing Medical Education (CME) Articles.  The first issue was published on schedule in August 2022.

The Vision of this journal is to be the foremost Medical case report journal in this region. Its Mission is dedicated to improving the lives of all peoples of the Malaysia and the region by assisting and strengthening the capacities of young doctors and health care staff within the Region by publishing sound scientific articles. We will consider all unsolicited case reports submitted to the journal and will commission distinguished Malaysians to write relevant case reports and CMEs. The Case reports should include thorough and detailed case presentations, as well as substantial discussions about the relevance to clinical practice and research.

Editorial policy

The journal follows ICMJE and COPE guidelines with regards to concerning its editorial policies on publication ethics, scientific misconduct, consent and peer review criteria. Authors are encouraged to follow the  CARE guidelines (for CAse REports).
